Electronics are found in most homes and businesses, and are a large monetary investment for your customer. Follow this process in order to clean electronics that have been damaged by a fire and/or smoke damage.
Process Steps:
Determine whether electronics could be salvageable
1. Determine whether electronics could be salvageable
Electronics that have been damaged by heat (from a fire) or water (from a water loss or due to putting out a fire) will not be operational even after being cleaned. If they are only soot- or smoke-damaged, they may be salvageable and it is worth proceeding.
2. Disconnect electronics or remove power source

3. Inspect electronics for safety
This will often be given to a subcontractor as it requires a qualified technician. Make sure that the device is safe to restore and operate.
4. Perform cleaning
Check first to see if electronics are covered by warranty and can be replaced.
  1. Wipe exterior surfaces with a soft cloth to remove soot marks.
  2. Blow out media ports and air vents with a can of compressed air.
  3. Depending on results of inspection, there may be specific internal components that need to have soot removed.
5. Test for operation
This also needs to be done by a qualified technician.
