Placing floor protection is VERY important step when working in someone's property to ensure further damage is not caused by the mitigation process.
1. Determine the area
Walk the area from the damage to the end of the floor you are protecting, or the exit of the home
- Determine if the amount of floor protection needed
- Explain to the homeowner what you are doing
2. Bring the proper items/tools
Bring in the items needed:
- Floor protection
- Tape (White Masking,Blue Painters Tape, Paper Tape)
- Utility Knife for floor protection
- Safety Signs/Cones
3. Take photos of any preexisting damage
It is very important to walk the entire area at initial inspection to look for damage that was there upon your arrival
- Take photos of pre-existing damage
- Document these photos in the Job File
4. Move furniture out of the area
Clear the area of furniture/anything in the area you are covering
- Remove any floor rugs
- Move any Furniture in the way of the Path
5. Clean the area
Make sure the area is clean
- Thoroughly sweep the area
- Damp Mop the area to assure it is clean
6. Begin laying protection
When applying up to an existing wall (When Covering a Complete room)
- Use Blue Painters tape to cover the Base/molding
- this protects the surface from the Masking tape need to hold the floor covering down
- Place a small section of the Floor covering and use the Masking tape
- 1/2 on the Blue Tape and 1/2 on the Floor Covering
- Roll Out the next sheet and over lap each section to be taped down(1-2 inches)
- Make sure to spend the time to press down firmly on the tape to ensure it is tightly adhered
- Be sure to use the utility knife made for laying floor protection as you cut the pieces to fit to the area
When Applying as a runner
- Start from the area you are working in
- Use a small section(starter piece) and tape down using masking tape
- Roll out the floor protection to the end of the area being protected(Keep attached to the roll)
- Start by securing the beginning edge to the starter piece
- Continue along taping until you reach the end of the area being covered
- Cut the end and secure it down with tape
7. Place warning signs/cones
Place cones and/or safety signs along the runner area, or at the entry to a room that is completely covered
