It is important that all measurements are complete and accurate. If your measurements are not accurate then most adjusters will assume that your estimate is not accurate. Follow this process in order to take your measurements properly.
Process Steps:
Take measurements using a tape measure
1. Take measurements using a tape measure
It is a good idea to have at least a twenty-five foot tape measure.
2. Measure from wall to wall
Measure the distance from one wall to the opposite wall using a tape measure. Ensure the tape measure is straight and taut to get an accurate measurement.
3. Take offsetting measurements if the room is not square
4. Measure and label closets separately
5. Draw a diagram of any room with an odd shape or many different dimensions
6. Take necessary measurements depending on the type of job being done
  • For water damage (no painting required), only floor dimensions are needed.
  • For cleaning or construction estimate, wall height is needed (all wall dimensions are required if the room has a sloped or peaked ceiling). Note that a standard ceiling height is eight feet.
