Frequently Asked Questions

How does KnowHow answer my team's questions?
When you join KnowHow, your workforce gains access to a virtual expert who can provide on-the-job guidance to workers whenever they need it. This expert, named Howie, scans your company's unique processes, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to deliver accurate, easy-to-understand answers to your team's questions. Howie is like having an additional team member always ready to assist, enabling you to enhance operational efficiency, empower employees, and ensure consistent high-quality service delivery.
What content is available in the KnowHow template library? Do you have pre-built Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)?
KnowHow has thousands of templates available for you to use and customize, including step-by-step guides for common restoration jobs, tools, and software. Additionally, KnowHow has a wide variety of ways to upload or build your own content, including Process Creator, Magic Docs.
Where does KnowHow's content come from?
KnowHow works with seasoned experts from the industry with decades of experience to build high-quality, detailed templates for every aspect of the restoration industry.

Additionally, KnowHow partners with established vendors like CoreLogic, Magic Plan, DrySource, SafetyExpress, and many others to create authoritative guides for their products that customers can trust.
How secure is my content with KnowHow?
With KnowHow, you have full control over who has access to your content and who doesn’t. Only designated employees can see the specific content that you allow them to see. With one click, you can remove anybody’s access to KnowHow.

Compare this to the alternative of printed PDFs and operations manuals, which are incredibly difficult to track, and are easy for staff to walk away with. Additionally, Shared Drives like Dropbox or OneDrive often have confusing permission structures, with different folders having different access levels.

KnowHow never trains its AI models on your data or shares your processes or information with other companies.

With KnowHow, your company’s “secret sauce” is 100% secure, and 100% yours.
Will my team utilize this?
KnowHow's app is friendly and intuitive. But we're not leaving you to figure it out all by yourself. Our dedicated team is here to make sure your workforce gets up to speed swiftly and comfortably. And yes, we've got a bunch of handy demo videos ready to roll, too.
What devices are compatible with the KnowHow app?
KnowHow is a web and mobile app that's available anywhere you have an internet connection (and even some places where you don't)!

KnowHow's web app is available at tryknowhow.com and can be accessed through Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and most other browsers.

When it comes to accessing KnowHow's mobile app, most modern phones and tablets are compatible with KnowHow. Specifically, the KnowHow app is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and runs on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Any iPhone running iOS 13+ and any Android device running Android 5+ can run the KnowHow app. We've designed our app to be as lightweight as possible, but downloading processes for offline use might take up additional storage capacity.

KnowHow is also available as a Chrome Extension giving your team members instant access to processes, training materials, and company-specific knowledge without disrupting their workflow. No stopping to search. No switching tabs. No waiting for answers. All they have to do is ask Howie, our AI assistant, a question and they get the information they need without breaking focus.
Is KnowHow only available for English-speaking teams?
We understand that language barriers can pose a challenge in diverse workforces. That’s why KnowHow automatically translates every process you add into whatever an employee's preferred language is on their device. This ensures that everyone on your team can receive clear and concise instructions for any task, regardless of their native language. With KnowHow, you can foster a more inclusive and productive workplace for all.

KnowHow currently offers translation to: Armenian, Chinese, Simplified English, French, Hindi, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
What is the difference between KnowHow and a Learning Management System (LMS)?
While Learning Management Systems are focused on initial learning, KnowHow is a comprehensive "doing management system". It equips your team members who are out in the field with precise instructions on how to complete their tasks. LMSs typically find use during onboarding, but KnowHow stays with your team every single day, keeping your expertise in every employee's pocket while they're on-the-job. In essence, KnowHow is like giving your LMS a practical, hands-on twist, making it an everyday tool that your team can access anywhere, anytime.
How do I get started with KnowHow?
Here’s a good primer.
Does KnowHow search the Internet?
KnowHow has two AI models: KnowHow’s Internal Magic Search and Process Creator.

The Internal Magic Search model drives our search tool that helps connect staff with instant answers from all your processes and PDFs. This model does not pull any information from the internet, and is 100% exclusively trained on the content you put into KnowHow. When staff search for answers in KnowHow, they will only see the information you’ve provided for them.

KnowHow’s Process Creator uses a different AI tool to help process authors create how-tos on common industry processes, such as removing baseboard and trim or using Quickbooks. This model will search the internet for information that has been published on these subjects to help build a rough draft of a process that you can then edit. This model is not trained on other KnowHow content and only references information published publicly on the internet, similar to what you would find in a Google search.
Can KnowHow turn videos without audio into written step-by-step processes?
In order for KnowHow’s AI to generate steps, the video needs to have audio in order for it to understand what to create and when to move from one step to another.

How does KnowHow impact my bottom-line profit?
Increased Job Efficiency and Productivity: Every wasted minute on a job site costs money. KnowHow ensures your team is up to speed faster, with on-demand training that slashes onboarding time and gets new hires contributing from day one. Instead of costly mistakes and frustrating delays, your crew has instant access to the right procedures—eliminating guesswork, reducing costly errors and rework, and keeping every job on track. The result? A more efficient team, smoother operations, and a direct boost to your bottom line.

Higher Job Profit Margins: Margins in the restoration industry are tight, and wasted time cuts directly into profits. When crews have instant access to clear processes, they spend less time searching for answers and more time completing billable work. At the same time, better documentation ensures faster insurance approvals and fewer disputes—keeping jobs on track, cash flowing, and your bottom line growing.

Reduced Callbacks and Lower Operational Costs: Inefficiency is expensive. Every hour spent repeating previous training, every repeated question that pulls a manager away, and every misused piece of equipment chips away at your bottom line. KnowHow eliminates that waste by giving your team instant access to the answers and company-specific processes they need without slowing down the job. New hires ramp up faster, crews work with confidence, and supervisors focus on more strategic business initiatives instead of answering the same questions. This leads to lower training costs, fewer costly mistakes, and a business that runs leaner, smarter, and more profitably.
